I’ve been diving deep into what it takes to grow a personal brand and help others grow theirs—whether that’s creators, businesses, or collaborators. One of the best resources I’ve come across recently is Dennis Yu’s video, “How to Drive Sales as a Digital Marketing Agency“. It’s packed with advice that’s actually useful—not just theory.
Here are the biggest takeaways I got from it, especially as someone actively trying to build in this space.
1. Build a System—Not Just Offer Services
The biggest thing that stood out was Dennis’s focus on building a system instead of just offering services. He walks through his own system, called the Social Amplification Engine, which breaks down into six parts:
You don’t have to copy this exact setup. That’s not the point. The real value is in having a process that you stick to and share publicly.
When people know what you do and how you do it, they trust you more—and you’re not scrambling to say yes to things you don’t even specialize in. If something doesn’t fit your system, you refer it out. That kind of clarity makes everything easier.
2. Sell Like a Doctor, Not a Salesman
This analogy really stuck with me.
Dennis compares digital marketers to doctors. When you go to a doctor, you already trust that they know what they’re doing. You don’t ask a random person to perform surgery—you ask a specialist. And that’s because the doctor has a reputation. They’ve published work, they’re known in their field, and people come to them.
That’s the goal for us in marketing: build enough credibility through content and proof that clients come to you already knowing what you do.
But it goes deeper than that. When your framework is proven, your diagnosis earns trust — and clients gladly accept the treatment plan. That’s what real authority looks like.
The opposite? Selling like a salesman—constantly chasing clients, customizing every offer, and compromising your standards just to close a deal.
That’s not sustainable. Or scalable.
3. Let Your Content Do the Talking
This is where it all comes together.
You need to put your content out there—long-form videos, short-form clips, blog posts, articles, all of it. Not just once, but consistently. Your system, your process, your results. The more people see of you online, the more they’ll understand what you’re about.
When you do this right, you don’t need to cold pitch. Your content builds your reputation for you. People already know what you do—and if they align with it, they’ll reach out.
Why This Matters to Me
I’m still building my own system. I’m in the early stages of defining how I work, what I offer, and how I help people grow their brands. But Dennis’s video helped me think more clearly about that process. It gave me a framework to start from and a mindset to move with.
If you’re trying to grow in the digital marketing space too—especially if you’re building your own personal brand—I highly recommend watching the video. You can check it out here.
What’s Next
I’ll be sharing more of what I’m learning as I apply these concepts. If you’re also in the early stages of building something real, let’s connect.
We don’t need to fake credibility. We just need to build it right—one piece of content, one framework, one clear system at a time.
