After wrapping up a gym session, I started thinking about something I’ve told creators, athletes, and especially dunkers—like Jordan Kilganon and some of the JumpMaster X guys—for a while now. Some of them listen, and it shows in their profiles. Others don’t, and it costs them.
Here’s the simple fix: remove low-effort or joke posts from your main Instagram grid, but leave them in your Reels tab.
Why It Works
Think about who’s visiting your profile: sponsors, event organizers, and anyone sizing you up professionally. If the first thing they see is a low-quality meme or a joke video, they’ll assume you’re not serious.
For example, I’ve posted stuff like:
- “Me dunking at 5’11 vs 6 feet”
- “Me dunking on a 13-foot rim” (when it’s clearly 7 feet)
- “Best 10 y/o dunker in the world”
Funny? Sure. But none of those belong on the front page of your portfolio. That’s what your main profile grid is: your highlight reel. Don’t bury it under throwaway posts.
How to Clean It Up (Takes 10 Seconds)
- Go to the Reel you want to hide from your grid.
- Tap the three dots in the top-right.
- Select “Remove from Profile Grid.”
The post disappears from your main grid, but it’s still live on your Reels tab—still getting views, shares, and engagement like normal. Nothing’s deleted. And if you ever change your mind, you can add it back to your main grid anytime.
Keep the Balance
You’re still producing the same content, just managing what show up front.
- Still post memes, satire, etc.
- Still ride trends when something is popping off.
- Just don’t let low-effort content be the first impression.
This trick keeps your profile looking polished while letting your content strategy stay flexible.
If You Want to Get Paid, Act Like It
If your only goal is to entertain or go viral, fine—ignore this. But if you’re trying to build a brand, close sponsorships, or book events, then your presentation matters.
Think of your Instagram like a resume. Only your best should be on display when it counts.
Have you been using this feature? If not, give it a try. It’s one of the most underrated tools Instagram offers—and most creators still don’t use it.
