I tried to recreate the biggest dunks from the 2023 NBA Dunk Contest—Mac McClung, Trey Murphy III, Jericho Sims, and KJ Martin—outside on an 8’6″ rim. I was 15, 5’10”, and it ended up being one of my favorite low-rim sessions.
- Trey Murphy 360 off the backboard pump. Caught it and pumped it cleanly.
- Jericho Sims armpit in the rim. I used the net to help like he did.
- KJ Martin backscratch reverse windmill. One of the harder ones, but it felt good when I hit it.
- BTL self alley windmill. Tossed it to myself, went between the legs, and finished strong.
- Reverse 360 windmill. Like Vince did originally—smooth spin, good power.
- Mac McClung “540/360 reverse.” My favorite of the day and probably my cleanest dunk of the whole session.
For Mac’s first dunk I didn’t have two people to jump over, so I used one instead. Next time I’ll raise the rim and try to do it harder.
